What do I bring ?

Clothes - including a long sleeved shirt and long pants if you require full protection from the sun. A wind jacket, toiletries, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, swimmers and a beach towel is all you need to bring for an enjoyable charter experience.

You can bring a still camera or video camera, however we use a 35mm camera to capture happy moments of your boating holiday or fishing trip. We will forward photos to you free of charge.

For extended charters you could bring a book or tape of your favourite music. This is not necessary as we have an assortment of magazines, books and music onboard.

Do I need to bring any fishing tackle ?

Included in the price is the use of quality rods and spinning reels to handle line classes of 4 to 20 pound breaking strain. All terminal tackle is supplied and tied to platypus platinum line (A strong fine line for estuary fishing).

Also included is Enviro landing nets, crab traps, bait, cast nets, yabby pumps and live bait and fish tanks. For the lure fisher, Tom (a keen tosser himself) has a selection of quality hand crafted lures for your use.

You are welcome to bring your own familiar fishing equipment, or lures you may like to try. If you prefer flyfishing you are welcome to bring your own tackle. While we do not supply tackle for this type of fishing, we do have a vessel with a stable casting platform. Apart from that, all you have to do is turn up and fish.

How do I get there?

You can fly to the International Airport at nearby Brisbane. Domestic travelers can choose to fly into Brisbane or Coolangatta Both airports are approximately 45 minutes from the marina.

Train travelers can commute to Beenleigh Rail Station which is around 20 minutes from the marina. Transport can be arranged to and from the airports or rail station.

We can also arrange transport from areas of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. If you are traveling south by road take exit 49 off the Pacific Highway to Pimpama / Jacobs Well or if heading north take exit 38 to Yatala North, and follow the signs to Horizon Shores Marina.

What types of fish would I expect to catch?

There are 715 species of fish in Moreton Bay. Of the species that inhabit the estuary system the most commonly targeted and caught are flathead, bream and whiting, and to a lesser extent luderick, tailor, mullaway, trevally, estuary cod and mangrove jack.

At times whaler and small black tipped reef sharks frequent these waters. The powerful fighting eel tail pike can be found in deeper holes and channels, particularly near weed beds. With so many species in the Moreton Bay area there will always be a surprise catch such as Cobia, which are known at certain times of the year to chase a school of fish well up into the estuary system.

There is always a chance of sneaking a mud or sand crab.

Is there anything to do besides fishing?

Collecting bait either with a yabby pump or a bait / cast net, or exploring the vast sand flats and sea beds can be a rewarding as well as educational experience.

You can take a walk along quiet sandy, white sandy beaches, or bush walk to spectacular views of the waterways and islands of southern Moreton Bay. Explore islands and waterways, observe marine and bird life, swim and sunbake, visit resorts, small villages and island communities, watch television, listen to music, play cards or board games.

Most people enjoy relaxing and absorbing the scenery, peace and tranquility of this unique part of Australia.

I would like to take my partner or family on a charter. How would it suit them?

Nearly 50 per cent of business generated by Jumpinpin Charters has been either couples or families up to 5. The Degree of comfort and variety of activities makes us very appealing for couples and families.

A 20 PER CENT DISCOUNT is available for children 12 years and younger.

Is it rough? I get seasick!

Jumpinpin Charters only operates within SMOOTH WATER LIMITS of Southern Moreton Bay. The many islands provide plenty of protection from the prevailing weather. Some anchors are that calm it is hard to believe you are on water.

What is the weather like?

This region boasts a warm sunny subtropical climate. The average summer temperatures (Nov. - Mar.) range between 20°C and 28°C, while the winter (June - Aug.) temperatures fall between 10°C and 21°C.

Where would I leave my car, and will it be safe?

Your car can be left at the Horizon Shores Marina. Security is provided.
